TV Shine

From a few weeks back, more dance practice and workout. This time, dancing to The Sun Always Shine On Tv (MTV Unplugged). It’s by A-ha featuring Ingrid Helene Håvik. Note: we do not own the rights to this song.

And, we still have a bad leg on our camera tripod!

In The Air

Rene Jen WCS 1-9-2021 West Coast Swing

From one of our dance workouts at home. This is one of the longest songs we’ve ever danced to! But, it was a lot of fun, especially the beginning.

The song is by Phil Collins, “In The Air Tonight”, but a live recorded version we found on Youtube. It had a rather lengthy intro and it was fun experimenting with movement. When there’s that much time to fill in, our creativity can really let loose.

Memory Digital

Our first posted dance for 2021! Acutally, there’s another dance floating around on my Facebook page that was posted before this one. So I guess that counts as the “first” dance of 2021. It wasn’t as cold this evening so we were able to dance comfortably.

You’ll notice throughout the dance the camera wobbles here and there. It was probably about half way through that we realized the camera tripod had some loose footing. It’s something we’ll have to fix for next time. But overall, we enjoyed our dance and wanted to share it with you 🙂

This time, we’re dancing to “Memory Digital” by Taylor McFerrin feturing Anna Wise. Note: we do not own rights to this song.

Last Christmas – Goodbye, 2020!

It’s that time of year! Happy holidays and Merry Christmas as we dance to “Last Christmas” by Wham. We even got jolly ol’ St. Nick to join in on our festivities.

We are dancing to “Last Christmas” by Wham. Note: we do not own the rights to this song.

No Air

No Air

This is one of our dances from back in November.  The song is “No Air” by Jordin Sparks, featuring Chris Brown.  Back when we started West Coast Swing, I remember some really great West Coast Swing dance songs by Jordin Sparks. Some of my favorites from her are “Freeze” and “One Step At A Time”. Note: we do not own the rights to this song.

All Dressed Up and Nowhere to Go

all dressed up

All Dressed Up and Nowhere to Go

Jen has been adding a few new pieces of clothing to her wardrobe. She was perfectly dressed for an online summit she was hosting as part of her Rock Star Marketing business. As the day wore on, we knew we would be getting to our normal dance/workout practice session.

I thought since she was dressed up, I should dress up as well. The clothes I’m wearing aren’t new for me. I’ve worn them over the years whenever I competed in West Coast Swing dance competitions. Surprisingly, they still fit me decent.

It was a Friday night, but we had nowhere to go. So, we went straight to dancing! That’s not too bad of an alternative if you as us, right?

The song we are dancing to is “Still Feel Like Your Man” by John Mayer. Note: we do not own the rights to this song.

A fun dance in our “going out” clothes!

Fly Me To The Moon

fly me to the moon west coast swing

Another great, fun workout dancing West Coast Swing. This time, we’re smooth grooving it to “Fly Me To The Moon” by Ben L’Oncle Soul. A really great rendition of the Frank Sinatra classic. Note: we do not own the rights to this song.

One Time

A dance workout, to keep both of us in shape, especially since we are both working from home and sitting at desks for long hours. Our garage has been converted to a small dance floor for several years now. Having it means we can step onto it any hour of the day and get some dancing in!

In this dance, I even try that knee-drop move… with the opposite foot! I’ve done this before, but with my right foot landing on the floor. I hesitate for a few minutes for two reasons:

  1. I’ve never done it with this foot before
  2. I was trying to hit something in the music

Still, it was a fun song to dance and improv to. These types of songs have a lot of fun moments, even though it’s a slower song. Still, it’s fun to experiment.

The song we dance to in this video is my Marian Hill, “One Time”. Note: we do not own the rights to this song.

Throwback Dance: Carmel Highlands Inn

West Coast Swing

Back in the day, one of the best places to dance on the Monterey Peninsula was at the Carmel Highlands Inn. Before COVID-19 was even a news headline, the dancing at this great spot ended, several years before.

It was a changing of the management at the inn, the retirement of an awesome duo band at the time, and perhaps people even moving on. But for Jennifer and myself, this was THE spot to go West Coast Swing dancing every Friday night. There was nothing else I quite enjoyed more than going through my workday on Friday with the anticipation of a great night out of dancing after dinner and work. This was always a great way to kick off the weekends!

The Carmel Highlands Inn was a place for the local West Coast Swing community in Monterey (as well as surrounding areas) to come together, be social, chat, and DANCE! There was never again another place like it ever since. And with COVID, there really isn’t any places to gather and dance like before.

In time, perhaps there will be another such place. For now, we’ll look back fondly at what an awesome place this was for dancing and enjoying the company of good friends. Until the next dance spot crops up, keep on dancing at home, your garage, or with your loved ones! Just KEEP ON DANCING!!!
